How to play
How to play the millionaire quiz
- Pick a game. The Daily game has the same 15 questions for everyone today. Practice gives you a fresh set each time, and doesn’t repeat questions until you’ve seen them all.
- Answer the question. Each question has four answers and only one is right. Tap your answer, then tap Final answer to lock it in.
- Climb the ladder. Every right answer moves you up a rung, from £100 at question 1 to £1,000,000 at question 15. Questions 1 to 5 are easy, 6 to 10 are medium and 11 to 15 are hard.
- Use your lifelines. You get each of the three lifelines once per game, and you can use more than one on the same question.
- Know when to stop. A wrong answer drops you back to your last safe haven (£1,000 or £32,000), or to nothing before question 5. If you’re not sure, walk away and keep what you’ve won.
The three lifelines
- 50:50. Two wrong answers are taken away, leaving the right answer and one wrong one.
- Ask the Audience. The studio audience votes and you see the result as a bar chart. They are usually right on the easy questions and less sure on the hard ones.
- Phone a Friend. Your friend tells you what they think and how sure they are. They know a lot, but not everything.

Tips
How to win more on the quiz
- Save your lifelines. The first five questions are meant to be easy. Lifelines are worth far more on questions 10 to 15.
- Ask the Audience early, 50:50 late. The audience is most reliable on easier questions; 50:50 always helps, however hard the question.
- Use 50:50 before you phone. With only two answers left, your friend has a better chance of getting it right.
- Bank the safe haven. Once you pass £32,000 you can’t drop below it, so questions 11 and 12 are worth a careful guess. After that, a wrong answer costs much more.
- Walk away when you really don’t know. At £500,000 a wrong guess drops you to £32,000. A 50:50 guess there is a bad bet.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is this millionaire quiz free?
Yes. The Daily game, Practice games and friend challenges are all free, with no sign-up, no email and nothing to download. The money is pretend: there are no real prizes.
How does the millionaire quiz work?
Answer 15 multiple-choice questions in a row. Each has four answers and one is right. Every right answer moves you up the money ladder, from £100 to £1,000,000, and the questions get harder as you climb.
What are the lifelines?
50:50 removes two wrong answers. Ask the Audience shows how a studio audience voted. Phone a Friend tells you what your friend thinks. You can use each one once per game, and more than one on the same question.
What are the safe havens?
The safe havens are £1,000 (question 5) and £32,000 (question 10). Once you pass one, a wrong answer can only drop you back to it. Get a question wrong before question 5 and you leave with nothing.
Can I walk away with my money?
Yes. At any point before you lock in an answer, tap Walk away to leave with what you have already won. The game then shows you the right answer.
What is the money ladder?
£100, £200, £300, £500, £1,000, £2,000, £4,000, £8,000, £16,000, £32,000, £64,000, £125,000, £250,000, £500,000 and £1,000,000.
What is the Daily game?
Fifteen questions that are the same for everyone each day, with new ones at midnight UK time. Only your first game counts, and it goes on today’s board under your nickname: the most money wins, and the time breaks a tie. You can share your result afterwards.
Will I get the same questions again?
Not in Practice games until you have seen them all. The game remembers on your device which questions you have had, and picks new ones each time.
How do I challenge a friend?
After a Practice game, tap WhatsApp, Messages or Copy link under Challenge a friend. Your friend gets exactly the same 15 questions and sees whether they won more than you.
How hard are the questions?
Questions 1 to 5 are easy, 6 to 10 are about pub quiz level and 11 to 15 need real general knowledge. They cover geography, history, science, nature, sport, the arts, food, words, maths, TV, film and music, UK life, space and technology.
Does the quiz have music?
Yes. Each question has its own tense background music with a ticking clock and a heartbeat, which gets faster and higher as you climb the ladder, plus a big moment when you lock in your final answer and sounds for right and wrong answers. It is original music played with orchestral instruments. Tap the speaker button on the game to turn it off.
Is this the official TV show game?
No. It is an independent, free quiz in the same style, made by Altto. It isn’t linked to or endorsed by any TV programme.
Can I play with a keyboard or a screen reader?
Yes. Press A, B, C or D to pick an answer, then Enter to lock it in. Each question, its answers and the result are read out to screen readers, and animations are reduced if your device asks for less motion.
Is anything stored or uploaded?
Your best score and the questions you have seen are saved only on your device. Only a Daily game result is sent, with your nickname, so it can appear on today’s board.
