For website owners

Free tool widgets for your website

Add a working word counter or text case converter to your blog, school site or intranet with two lines of code. Free, private and nothing to sign up for.

Updated 11 Oct 2026

How it works: copy a snippet below into your page. The widget runs in your visitor’s browser, so what they type is never sent to us or anyone else. It shows a small “Powered by altto” link, which is the only thing we ask in return.

Word counter widget

Counts words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs and reading time as the visitor types or pastes.

<div data-altto-widget="word-counter"></div>
<script src="https://altto.co.uk/js/embed.js" async></script>

Text case converter widget

One click to UPPER CASE, lower case, Title Case or Sentence case, plus a copy button.

<div data-altto-widget="case-converter"></div>
<script src="https://altto.co.uk/js/embed.js" async></script>

Good to know

  • Private: no cookies, no tracking, no network requests after the script loads.
  • Light: one small script, loaded asynchronously; styles are isolated so your site’s CSS cannot break it.
  • Attribution: please leave the “Powered by altto” link in place. It is how the widget stays free.
  • Works with WordPress (Custom HTML block), Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, Google Sites (embed), Moodle and plain HTML. If your editor strips script tags, use its “embed code” or “HTML” block.

Frequently asked questions

Is the widget free?

Yes. It costs nothing, needs no account and has no usage limit. The only condition is that you keep the small “Powered by altto” link that the widget shows.

Does the widget send my visitors’ text anywhere?

No. The counting and case conversion run in the visitor’s browser. Nothing they type is sent to altto or anyone else. The script is a single static file with no tracking.

Will it slow my page down?

The script is about 5 KB, loads asynchronously and does nothing until the page has loaded, so it should not affect your page speed.

Can I change how it looks?

The widget has its own neutral white card style, so it will not clash with your CSS (or be broken by it). Place it in a container of the width you want; it fills up to 640 px.

Which widgets are available?

A word counter (words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, reading time) and a text case converter (UPPER, lower, Title and Sentence case, with copy). More are planned; tell us which you would use via the contact page.

Can I use it on a commercial site or a school site?

Yes, as long as you keep the attribution link. If you need a version with no link, or one hosted on your own server, get in touch.
