How to play Riddle of the Day
- Read today’s riddle. Everyone in the UK gets the same one, and a new riddle arrives at midnight.
- Type your answer. Small spelling slips are fine, and you don’t need “a” or “the”. Guess as many times as you like.
- Stuck? Take a hint. There are two: a gentle nudge, then a big clue. Solving it without hints scores best.
- Share your result. Send your score to friends without giving the answer away, and come back tomorrow to keep your streak.

At midnight UK time, every day. Everyone gets the same riddle, so you can compare with friends.
Do I have to spell the answer exactly?
No. Small spelling slips are accepted, you don’t need words like “a” or “the”, and plurals count. Most riddles also accept other common ways of saying the answer.
What if I get stuck?
Take a hint. There are two for every riddle: a gentle nudge first, then a bigger clue. If you’re still stuck you can show the answer, with a short explanation of the trick.
How does the streak work?
Solve the riddle of the day on consecutive days to build your streak. Showing the answer, or solving an earlier day’s riddle later, doesn’t count towards it. Your streak is saved on your device.
Can I play earlier riddles?

Are the riddles suitable for children?

Altto writes them. Some are fresh takes on classic riddles that have been passed down for generations, and many are new. Each one is checked so there’s one fair answer.
Can I share the riddle with friends?
Yes. After you finish, share your result on WhatsApp or anywhere else. It shows how many guesses and hints you used, but not the answer, so your friends can still have a go.
