Why your document never leaves your device
Most AI summarisers upload your document to a server and run it through a cloud model. Altto runs the AI inside your browser instead. If you use a recent version of Chrome on a computer, we use Chrome’s own built-in AI; otherwise your browser downloads a compact summarising model once and keeps it.

Will it run on my device?
Because the AI runs on your own device instead of on a server, your computer does the work — that’s what keeps your files private. Most computers from the last few years are fine, but a more powerful one is noticeably faster.

Phones and tablets can summarise short texts, but may run out of memory on long documents.
Tested on a mid-range PC with AMD Ryzen built-in graphics (no separate graphics card), in Chrome: A 300-word news article: 25 seconds with Chrome’s built-in AI; with the downloadable model, 9 seconds to load and 7 seconds to summarise.
