How it works

How to convert files to PDF and combine them

Each file is handed to the matching Altto converter inside this browser tab. The PDFs it makes are then joined page by page, in the order you set.

01

Add your files

Drop in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text, HTML, images or PDFs, in any mix.

02

Put them in order

Use the arrows, then choose one combined PDF or one PDF each.

03

Download

Your PDF saves straight away; separate PDFs come in a .zip.

Tips

Getting the PDF you want

A few things that make a combined PDF come out right first time.

  • Put them in order firstUse the arrows beside each file to set the order. In a combined PDF the pages follow that order exactly, so a cover letter goes first and appendices last.
  • Need page numbers or a smaller file? When the PDF is ready, the "What next?" box under the result takes it straight to Add Page Numbers, Compress PDF or Sign PDF with the file already loaded.
  • Old .doc, .xls or .ppt files?Save them as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx first (File, then Save As, in any version of Office from 2007 on), then add them here.
  • Want more control over one file? The single converters have extra settings, such as page size for images. Use Image to PDF or HTML to PDF for those, then add the result here to combine it with the rest.

Like every Altto tool, this runs on your device — nothing you add is uploaded. How Altto works

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What to expect when you turn a mix of files into a PDF.

Which files can I turn into a PDF?
Word documents (.docx), Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx), PowerPoint presentations (.pptx), text files (.txt), web pages saved as .html, and images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, BMP). You can also add existing PDFs, so they’re included when you combine everything into one file.
Can I combine different types of file into one PDF?
Yes. Add them in any mix, put them in the order you want with the arrows, and choose One combined PDF. Each file is converted and the pages are joined in that order.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Every file is converted inside your browser tab, on your device, and the PDF is put together there too. Nothing is sent to a server.
Is it the same as the single converters?
Yes. Behind the scenes each file goes through the same converter as Altto’s single tools (Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF and so on), using their default settings, so the result is the same. Use a single tool when you want its extra options.
What about old .doc, .xls or .ppt files?
Those older formats aren’t supported. Open the file in Word, Excel or PowerPoint (or a free office app), save it as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx, and add that. Or use the app’s own Print → Save as PDF.
Can I get one PDF per file instead?
Yes. Choose One PDF each and every file becomes its own PDF, all downloaded together in a .zip.
What happens with a password-protected PDF?
It can’t be read without its password, so it’s left out and you’re told which one. Unlock it first with Unlock PDF, then add it again.
